More Details:
“Volcano National Park” is a fully guided and
narrated tour through the amazing Hawaii Volcanoes National Park for
sightseeing, exploring the activity of Kilauea volcano and the past
formations it has left. First stop inside the volcano national park
includes the visitor center which is full of information and
interesting animals in the national park. Next you will be able to
see and touch our steam vents where water has seeped through the
ground and in return turning that water into vapor sending it back
up to the surface. A stop at the Jagger museum hosts a wonderful
collection of all types of lava formations and is in fact where
volcanologist does their studies and observes the volcano. You will
be able to view the active seismographs in action! But one of the
most spectacular sights is the view over the Kilauea caldera and the
Halema'uma'u pit that was a recent sulfur bank that erupted and
still is. The Halema’uma’u pit puts out an impressive could of gases
from the volcano……don’t worry we don’t get close to the volcanic
gases. The crater is about 3,000 feet across and nearly 300 feet
deep. Halema'uma'u changed greatly during the 20th century. In 1924,
it was only 1,500 feet in diameter but was filled by a lake of
molten lava that bubbled and boiled at 2,100 degrees Fahrenheit.
Look carefully into the crater. You might see a large long-tailed
white bird flying gracefully about. This is the white-tailed tropic
bird, known locally as Koa'e or crater bird. It feeds at sea, but
nests in the crater wall. Next spectacular event will be a walk
through the Thurston Lava Tube. As you walk through the tube
consider that several hundred years ago a river of red lava rushed
through. And that lava currently travels from Pu'u O'o to the ocean
in a labyrinth of lava tubes much like the tube you are walking
through. This tour also includes a stop at the famous 80ft Waterfall
known as Rainbow Falls in Hilo and Macadamia nut farm where you will
drive through the orchard and enjoy tasty flavored macadamia nuts.
Nearby is a local coffee farm where you will see the process of a
coffee farm and taste the freshly brewed coffee. We will also be
making a stop at a Black Sand Beach called Richardson where we often
spot sea turtles. This place is also a favorite to all the locals.
“Volcano National Park ” is approximately 4.5 – 5 hours from start
to finish if you are departing from Hilo, or approximately 9 hours
if you depart from Kona. (The tour departing from Kona also includes
the scenic Saddle Road drive.) Departure times vary throughout the
year according to the sunset. You will be given your exact departure
time when you reserve your tour.
Volcano Twilight Tour
Nighttime viewing into Halemaumau Crater
“Volcano Twilight” is a fully guided and narrated tour through
the amazing Hawaii Volcanoes National Park for sightseeing,
exploring and nighttime viewing into the steamy, glowing Halemau’mau
Crater.
Our Volcano Park is the only National Park that has two active
volcanoes. On this tour you will discover the most active, Kilauea,
which has been erupting continuously since the early 1980’s. Inside
the park your tour guide will show you to the Visitor’s Center,
Jagger Museum, the Thurston Lava Tube (which includes a 10-minute
easy hike through the lava tube!), active steam vents, sulfur banks,
scenic lookouts and finally your tour vehicle will stop at the
Halemau’mau Crater lookout where you will enjoy an amazing view
inside the crater after sunset. The molten lava just below the
crater’s surface creates a dramatic glow and a unique ambiance, a
perfect setting as you enjoy a picnic style dinner provided by your
tour guide
While we have the capacity to easily and comfortably accommodate
large groups, we mostly provide one tour guide and vehicle for each
group of 8 people. This way our tour guides are able to give more
attention to each group and our tours have a more intimate and
laid-back atmosphere.
This tour also includes a stop at the famous Rainbow Falls in Hilo,
and snacks and beverages are also provided throughout the tour.
